Marshall Zelinger should look familiar to you. After all, he's lived in Colorado for all but one year of his life. Marshall joined 7NEWS in January 2010. He graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2002 and grew up in Aurora [Smoky Hill Buffs!].As a Content Producer/Presenter, Marshall is charged with enterprising and reporting investigations, politics and breaking news stories for 7NEWS and TheDenverChannel.com. Using Facebook and Twitter [@7Marshall] Marshall plans to build a new Web/television connection. You'll often see him describing difficult topics through interactive show and tell.
Prior to joining 7NEWS, Marshall worked at KRDO in Colorado Springs, starting in May 2004. He started his journalism career at KRCR in Chico, Calif. in May 2003. While at KRDO, Marshall was recognized for his investigative, political and breaking news reporting. He's received more than a dozen awards, including two Heartland Chapter Emmy awards for his live reporting and political reporting on a woman was "Bl**ping Mad." He's also received honors from the Colorado Broadcasters Association, the Associated Press.Marshall reported extensively on the front lines of the Fourmile Canyon fire and repeatedly uncovered new information about Travis Forbes' connection to the disappearance/murder of Kenia Monge. In Colorado Springs, Marshall discovered an e-mail in a stack of nearly 1,000 e-mails, which revealed the Colorado Springs mayor admitting to breaking the law by trying to keep public information, private. Marshall uncovered mistakes made in the investigation of a sexual assault report in Fremont County and the city of Florence. His digging prompted the sheriff's office to look at previous cases to check for potential investigation mistakes.Marshall also revealed that a nurse suspected of putting patients at risk for Hepatitis C continued to work with patients in Colorado Springs, after the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment knew about allegations that the nurse was swapping surgical needles filled with pain medication, with her own dirty needles. As political reporter, Marshall kept political candidates and campaigns honest with his Truth Watch series.Do you say demonstrative deh-mon-stray-tive or deh-monstrah-tive? Either way, Marshall finds the best way to explain and understand a story is through show and tell. Marshall has demonstrated the steps to stay alive if caught outside during a winter storm and tested his own body in below zero temperatures to show just how fast you can get hypothermia.While at KRDO, Marshall covered the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver and Republican National Convention in St. Paul, MN. In St. Paul, Marshall shared workspace with 7NEWS anchor Mitch Jelniker. Gossip will be passed along to the highest bidder.Marshall also went undercover in Boston, to see how he would be treated as a Rockies fan outside of Fenway Park during the 2007 World Series, compared to being an undercover Red Sox fan outside of Coors Field. In 2004, he rode along on a bus with volunteers taking supplies to Houston after Hurricane Katrina.Marshall has covered political visits by President Barack Obama and President George Bush. During the 2008 Presidential campaign, Marshall sat down with Sen. John McCain and played a game of "word association."He's dad to a red, short-haired dachshund named "Kosher," who can't keep up with his long distance running. Marshall qualified for the Boston Marathon after just his second marathon, finishing the 26.2 miles in 3:03:24.
