Facebook Becomes Meeting Place After School Shooting
Updates From Students, Parents Detail Shooting Aftermath In Real Time

LITTLETON, Colo. -- Students, teachers and parents have found Facebook to be a common outlet for the Deer Creek Middle School shooting. Minutes after 32-year-old Bruco Eastwood is suspected of shooting and wounding two students, the Deer Creek community turned to Facebook. Many students posted updates for friends and family.The Facebook posts are written just as they appear on Facebook.Anna posted: "SHOOTING [at] DEER CREEK I SAW THE GUY HE AS RIGHT BEHIND ME!!!!!!!"
Halle wrote: "i cant stop crying. im soo scared and confused; I just cant think straight. thank GOD my best friend is alive."Alex responded to Halle: "I am glad we r both ok."Kaela wrote: "SO FREAKED THERE WAS JUST A SHOOTING AT MY SCHOOL IT HAPPENED RIGHT BEHIND ME."In Kirsten's post, the Deer Creek student referenced one of the shooting victims and asked friends to call or text her with any updates to his condition.By early Tuesday evening, a Chatfield High School student had started a page entitled "Dr. David Benke Is A Hero!!!!". 7News first showed you this page when it had only nine followers just before 6:00 p.m. Within one hour, there were more than 1,500 followers. By late Tuesday night, there were more than 7,000 members."There was a shooting at deer creek middle school and Dr. David Benke, a math teacher there, tackled the shooter... he has my respect all the way," wrote the page's creator. "Why is he my hero? For a reason of course, not just any reason. But the fact that, I wish that if i ever come upon a moment in time where i had a choice as he did, that I would choose the same way."The Facebook posts are written just as they appear on Facebook.
