DENVER -- The FBI is searching for a man they believe is one of the "Hoppin Hooded Bandits," a group of men suspected of robbing at least four banks in Denver.Timothy McGlothin, 41, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Jan. 6. FBI officials say he is a fugitive and remains at large. His suspected accomplice, Joshua Licona, also was indicted in January but has been arrested and is in federal custody. The indictment alleged that McGlothin and Licona used a handgun to rob the Bank of Denver, 800 E. 17th Ave., on Dec. 23. A second count alleges that the two used a handgun during and in relation to a crime of violence, in furtherance of that crime, namely the armed bank robbery.
Surveillance photos from that bank robbery showed a group of three to four men walking into the bank wearing hoods and masks and brandishing their weapons in a take-over style robbery. If McGlothin and Licona are convicted of bank robbery, they could face not more than 25 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000. If convicted of the second count of using a firearm to further crime of violence, the men could face 7 years to life in prison.McGlothin is described as a black man, 41 years old, 5 feet 7 inches and 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. FBI officials said he should be considered armed and dangerous.Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force at 303-629-7171. A monetary award is possible for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
