Where to Retire magazine has included Denver in its listing of "eight hip cities for urban lifestyles."

The March/April 2010 issue spotlights destinations that are great for retirees and offer unusually good housing buys. A feature, "Ready for the Rebound: Hot Spots for Retirement Real Estate Discounts," gives retirees insight into the current bargains in places chosen by the editors from extensive research into home prices over the last decade, according to the magazine. Factors considered include low housing prices, low interest rates and high inventory.

"At one point, retirees were eager to flee the cities, but now many want to take advantage of all the fun cosmopolitan perks urban areas have. So we looked at cities across the country that offer a diversity of lifestyles with vibrant cultural and educational activities, along with enticing shopping, dining and entertainment scenes. All have appreciable savings now on property for retirement," said Mary Lu Abbott, editor of the magazine.

Denver offers "neighborhoods that range from elegant to funky, has a wide range of retirement living with abundant city amenities and outdoor recreation," Abbott said.

The other cities featured are Baltimore, Md.; Charleston, S.C.; Atlanta, Ga; Orlando, Fla.; Fort Worth, Texas; Portland, Ore.; and Seattle, Wash. The issue was mailed to subscribers nationwide on Feb. 1.

Each year, 700,000 Americans move to new towns to retire, according to the magazine.
