Denver Firefighter Injured In Gas Leak
Firefighter Treated; Gas Line Capped

DENVER -- A Denver firefighter is OK after being overcome by fumes in an early-morning gas leak. The unidentified firefighter was responding to a gas leak at an apartment complex in Denver at about 2 a.m. Monday. Authorities said a car went off the road and hit the apartment building in the 200 block of Quebec Street, rupturing a 2-inch high-pressure gas line. Five apartment residents had to leave their homes, with a gas odor reported up to a mile away.
The firefighter was treated and released.Denver fire spokesman Phil Champaign said it took Xcel Energy 2½ hours to respond, however an Xcel spokesman told 7NEWS the company responded with in 40 minutes. The ruptured gas line was capped by 4 a.m.The driver of the car survived. Police said he would be cited for careless driving.
