ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. -- The Colorado Department of Transportation reopened the 104th Avenue Bridge over the South Platte River on Thursday night after emergency repairs were completed."We have completed the majority of the repairs and the bridge is now safe to reopen to traffic," said CDOT Project Engineer Steve Pineiro. "We do still have some work to complete that may require single-lane alternating traffic next week for a day or two."CDOT closed the bridge on Nov. 16 after an inspection showed that the concrete around the pier caps and girders along one span of the bridge was rapidly deteriorating.
The bridge was built in 1965 and scored 49 out of 100 on the state's structurally deficient list but was not on the CDOT top 10 worst bridges list.More than 24,000 vehicles travel over the bridge every day, many of them heading to or from Denver International Airport.CDOT contracted with Jalisco International, Inc. for the repairs. Cost was approximately $241,000.
