ASPEN, Colo. -- The wife of actor Charlie Sheen called Aspen police on Christmas morning, saying Sheen threatened her with a knife, according to the 911 call released Monday.Sheen was arrested on Christmas Day on suspicion of menacing, second-degree assault and criminal mischief.Authorities haven't identified the alleged victim, but the woman on the 911 call said her name is Brooke and that her husband is Charlie Sheen. Sheen is married to Brooke Mueller Sheen.
The woman can be heard weeping and sometimes her words are inaudible. She calls the dispatcher, sobbing, saying she wants to report "domestic abuse.""My husband had me with a knife ... and I feared for my life and he threatened me," Mueller said on the call. "I thought I was gonna die for one hour."She said her family had separated them and he was in the back room with someone else in her family, while she was in the kitchen."He's with someone packing to leave," she said. She described the knife as "a switchblade" -- something he had in his back pocket. At least four times, she insists that she is calling because "she needs to file this report."When the 911 dispatcher leaves the line and tells her to hold, Mueller whispers, "Please God. I'm scared."She later says that "he's trying to sneak out the back right now" and the dispatcher tells her not to try and stop him if it means endangering herself. The call was made at 8:34 a.m. from a home at 320 W. Hallam Street on Christmas Day. Dispatchers at the Aspen Pitkin County Communications Center immediately dispatched officers to the scene to investigate.During police questioning, Mueller told officers Sheen pinned her on a bed, put a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her in a fight that began when she said she wanted a divorce, according to an arrest warrant also released Monday.Mueller said the actor straddled her on a bed with one hand grasping her neck and the other holding the knife. She said Sheen told her: "You better be in fear. If you tell anybody, I'll kill you."He also told her, "Your mother's money means nothing, I have ex-police I can hire who know how to get the job done and they won't leave any trace," according to the affidavit.Sheen denied threatening his wife with a knife or choking her, and told officers they had slapped each other on the arms and that he had snapped two pairs of her eyeglasses in front of her, according to the affidavit.Sheen, who is listed in the affidavit as Carlos Irwin Estevez, told police he and his wife have been having marital problems and that she abuses alcohol. The couple began arguing around 3:30 a.m. on Christmas Day, the affidavit said. Mueller told her husband she wanted a divorce and would get custody of their children, according to the affidavit. The couple have twin boys born in March.Sheen told police he "became very upset with this threat (of divorce) because of prior experiences." He went through a bitter divorce and custody battle with his previous wife, actress Denise Richards. After Sheen surrendered a folding knife with a 4-inch blade, Officer Rick Magnuson placed Sheen under arrest for investigation of assault, menacing, and criminal mischief. All charges are coupled with a domestic violence component. However, it may be not be known until February whether any charges will be filed against the "Two and a Half Men" actor.Sheen, 44, was released on an $8,500 bond several hours after his arrest. His case is due in court on Feb. 8. The district attorney's office said it won't make a decision on whether to prosecute him until shortly before that court date.Chief Deputy District Attorney Arnold Mordkin said Monday the menacing charge is the most serious, usually carrying a sentence of two to eight years in prison and a fine of $2,000 to $500,000.An ambulance was called to the home but Mueller did not need to be transported to the hospital.A mandatory protection order prohibits Sheen from having contact with his wife.Several online entertainment sites report that Mueller, a real estate investor, and Sheen were having marital problems and Mueller had rented a home in Aspen for several months to be away from him.The couple married in May 2008 and Mueller gave birth to their twin sons, Bob and Max, in March.Sheen's publicist has issued a statement urging people to not rush to judgment."It would benefit everyone not to jump to any conclusion," Stan Rosenfield said.Sheen's relationships have been tabloid fodder before, including that bitter divorce and custody battle with Richards in 2006.In 1990, he was living with actress Kelly Preston, now the wife of John Travolta, when he accidentally shot in her in the arm. The wound needed only a few stitches. The relationship ended soon after. In 1996, Sheen was charged with attacking a girlfriend at his Southern California home. He pleaded no contest and was placed on two years' probation. In 1998, his father, actor Martin Sheen, turned him in for violating parole after a cocaine overdose sent him to the hospital. He was later ordered to undergo a rehabilitation program. He also fueled gossip magazines in the late 1990s when he dated porn stars Ginger Lynn and Heather Hunter.
