ASPEN, Colo. -- Actor Charlie Sheen was arrested in Aspen on domestic violence charges and is spending his Christmas Day and weekend in jail.

The "Two and a Half Men" actor was arrested Friday after a scuffle with his wife, Brooke Mueller, according to several media reports.

Authorities wouldn't say who the alleged victim was, only that an ambulance was called and the woman did not have to be taken to the hospital.

The Pitkin County Sheriff's Office released a statement that said, "Carlos Irwin Estevez, also known as the actor Charles I. Sheen, 44, of Encino, Calif., was placed under arrest for second-degree assault, a class four felony; menacing, a class five felony and criminal mischief, a class one misdemeanor. All charges are coupled with a domestic violence component."

After initially stating that the Pitkin County District Court was closed for Christmas, Sheen was given a bond hearing, said Pitkin County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Stephanie Dasaro.

Dasaro said Sheen was released at about 7 p.m. on $8,500 bond "with standard domestic violence bond conditions" after he was advised of his charges by District Judge James Boyd. Sheen is scheduled for another court appearance on Feb. 8.

Colorado mandates a protection order between arrestees for domestic violence and their victims.

Sheen's publicist issued a statement urging people to not rush to judgement.

"It would benefit everyone not to jump to any conclusion," Stan Rosenfield said.

Mueller, who had been having marital problems with Sheen, rented a home in Aspen for several months, according Web site RadarOnline.com,. Sheen flew out to be with her and their two sons for the holiday but things got out control, according to a source quoted by RadarOnline.com. The couple began arguing and according to the source Mueller said that Sheen pushed her and she then called 911.

Police were called to the home at 320 West Hallam St. at about 8:30 a.m.

The couple married in May 2008 and Mueller gave birth to their sons, Bob and Max, in March. He was previously married to actress Denise Richards and has two daughters from that marriage.

According to TV Guide, Sheen is currently the highest paid actor on television, earning an estimated $825,000 for each episode of "Two and a Half Men."
