Man Arrested For Allegedly Kicking Family Dog

Superior Man Said Dog Was Digging In Trash

A Superior man was arrested for animal cruelty after he allegedly kicked the family dog for digging in the trash.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office said Thomas Luerck Sr., 48, was arrested after he admitted to kicking the family dog, Tikka, on Thursday after the beagle was caught rummaging in the garbage in the kitchen.

Investigators said the 6-year-old female beagle was found to have labored breathing and was having problems walking. Tikka underwent emergency surgery for severe trauma to the abdominal area.

Because Tikka suffered internal bleeding and a bruised and bleeding liver, Luerck was charged with a felony count of aggravated animal cruelty.

Tikka is currently under 24-hour care at an animal critical care facility outside of Boulder County. Her condition is stable and the dog is beginning to eat, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office reported.
