AURORA, Colo. -- Aurora police are asking for the public's help in finding two people believed to be connected to a fatal hit-and-run accident.Police released photos of the two people taken from a surveillance camera at a business in Aurora. Aurora police Detective Robert Friel refused to say where the photos were taken.Friel called the two "persons of interest" in the case. Anyone who recognizes them is asked to contact Aurora police at 303-739-6994.
The victim, Frank Correa, 36, of Aurora was killed while crossing East Alameda Avenue and South Potomac Street Tuesday night. He had received a new home courtesy of "ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" show several years ago.Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver of a Jeep that first struck Correa. A $2,000 reward is offered for information leading to an arrest. The 2005 or 2006 black Jeep Grand Cherokee should have significant damage to its right front headlight and hood, investigators said. The drivers of a silver Saturn and a red Honda that later ran over the fallen man remained at the scene and cooperated with police. The dead man's tearful widow, Noreen Correa, made a plea on 7NEWS Friday for the hit-and-run driver to surrender to authorities. "The driver, I just wish he would come forward," the wife said. "And at least face (that) you shouldn't have left. Because now you left us without ... my husband and his kids won't see him any more." She said the couple's four children, ages 9 to 19, are devastated by the death of their devoted father, who always enlivened family gatherings. "We're just going to miss him. He made our day. He made us happy," Noreen Correa said. "Christmas ... for the kids, I know it's going to be hard. Now we won't even hear his voice any more." Correa and his family were featured on the ABC show in 2004, when ABC built a duplex for two homeless families -- the Correas and the Madeiros. The families were selected because they were part of the Colorado Homeless Families organization."One family had to ride buses all day just to stay warm," said Constance Ramos, with "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." The Arvada duplex was built by 620 people working under the prime contractor, Irvine, Calif.-based Standard Pacific Homes. The Correas and Madeiros occupied the duplex for two years, paying a portion of their income as rent so that they could continue to work and eventually get back on their feet. The duplex then became a transitional residence for other families hoping to move from homelessness to home ownership. A community park and playground was also built on property next to the home.
