BOULDER, Colo. -- Boulder County sheriff's deputies have received numerous reports of mail thefts in the areas surrounding the Town of Lyons and Allenspark.

About 35 people have contacted the sheriff's office and reported their mail was taken from their mailboxes, opened and then discarded. Deputies said they believe that the thieves are searching for credit cards and gift cards.

Thefts occurred between Monday and Wednesday and have occurred in the following locations: Apple Valley Road, Jasper Drive, Quartz Way, Flint Gulch Road, Jade Way, Apple Ridge Road, Antelope Drive, Buttonrock Road, Conifer Hill Road and Longmont Dam Road.

Unconfirmed information is that thefts also occurred at residences located in the South St. Vrain Canyon, North St. Vrain Canyon, and in Stone Canyon, according to a press release.

The United States Postal Inspection Service has been notified and has requested victims of these thefts to contact them if their bank account information has been breached and a theft has occurred. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service may be contacted by telephone at 877-876-2455, option 3.

Citizens finding mail have been asked to return the mail to either the Lyons or Allenspark post offices.
