Jeffco Teacher Arrested, Accused Of Sexually Assaulting A Minor
Suspect Taught Second Grade

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- A second-grade teacher has been arrested and accused of sexually assaulting a minor in October, police said.Timothy Derby, 32, turned himself in to Fort Collins police on Tuesday, after a warrant was issued for his arrest, said Rita Davis, a police spokeswoman. Davis said the incident happened at a home in Fort Collins.Derby faces charges of sexual assault on a minor and attempted sexual assault on a minor, Davis said.
He is a second-grade teacher in Jefferson County. Davis said the investigation does not involve any of Derby’s current students.Lynn Setzer, spokeswoman for Jefferson County Public Schools said Derby has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation. Derby has been employed by the district for three years. This year, he was teaching at Patterson International Elementary School. Previously, he taught at Dennison Elementary School.
