Sheriff's Office Believe Drama Camp A Scam

Act Up! Drama Camp Accepted Fees From Kids

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office believes that the drama camp that kids and their parents had been paying registration fees to may be fraudulent.

The Act Up! Drama Camp was supposed to be a camp for children ages 8-12. It supposedly operated in the Gunbarrel area and was advertised in the Boulder, Longmont area, the sheriff's office said.

Several children had applied to attend the camp and mailed in the $150 registration fees, but they never received a response from the camp.

The camp was scheduled to be held July 6-10 but it never happened.

Deputies are currently attempting to locate the camp facilitators and have so far been unable to do so.

Deputy Steven Whitener said he knows of one family who has been victimized but believes there are many more. One family who contacted Whitener paid through Paypal, and when the mother disputed the charge, Paypal ruled in her favor. However, the camp facilitator who owned the account had cleared out his account so Paypal only refunded the woman the $1.50 remaining in the account, Whitener said.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office is asking others who have applied to the camp, who have talked to or heard from camp facilitators or owners, and who have any more information about this camp to come forward.

They are asked to contact Whitener at (303)441-4444.
