Hydroponic Marijuana-Growing System Found In Evergreen House

Investigators Look For Suspects After Finding 400 Plants

POSTED: 9:51 a.m. MDT May 7, 2003

The West Metro Drug Task Force is looking for suspects after seizing 400 marijuana plants from an Evergreen, Colo., home over the weekend.

Saturday, a resident on Fir Drive noticed water coming from the foundation of a home and forced entry into the house to locate the source, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

The resident discovered the marijuana plants and called the Sheriff's Office, which contacted the West Metro Drug Task Force.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives entered the home and located a sophisticated hydroponics system. They said the system somehow failed and that's what caused the outside water leakage.

The younger plants were several inches in height and the more mature plants were 2 to 3 feet in height, according to investigators. Detectives indicated that the marijuana plants could have generated up to $400,000 in product annually.

The home did not appeared to be lived in, but was used only to grow the plants.

Authorities are looking for suspects who could face a number of felony charges, if caught.
