AURORA, Colo. -- Police are investigating the identities of two badly decomposed bodies found in an Aurora field Tuesday morning.
Detectives said a farmer found the bodies in the middle of his field near 26th and Powhatan in eastern Aurora. He was on his ATV, preparing his wheat field for spraying when he made the grisly discovery at about 11:30 a.m.
Police say that the bodies appear to have been decomposing for at least 30 days and at this point, they can't identify the age or sex of the bodies, much less know the identity of the victims.
Aurora police are talking to the Douglas County Sheriff Office and there is some speculation that the bodies could possibly be the teens who have been missing from Highlands Ranch, 7NEWS reported.
Shawn Cerniglia, 16, and Carrie Lynn Heiden, 18, disappeared without a trace on Feb. 25. Their car was found abandoned and burned not too far from the remote field where these bodies were found, 7NEWS reported.
Tim Moore with Douglas County Sheriff's Office confirms that they've been talking to Aurora police to see if there's a connection to the case of the missing teens.
Aurora police said that they are treating the deaths as suspicious, but they are awaiting word from the coroner for the cause of death.
