The Colorado Department Of Transportation is getting rid of five properties it says are no longer needed for transportation purposes. One property is a rest area in Yuma County near Eckley on US 34. The 8.6-acre rest area closed in 2006 after 41 years of service as a cost-cutting measure. The four other properties for sale are former maintenance facilities. Three are in Weld County and the other is in Fort Collins. Proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase other property in Region 4, which covers northeast Colorado. The new property will be used for transportation purposes. CDOT must first determine the fair market value of the properties and will give right of first refusal to local governments. If they don’t want the property, they will be auctioned off to the general public.
Site details from CDOT:The Fort Collins parcel is a maintenance facility of approximately 3.445 acres. There are two buildings on the site, one 2,368 square-foot steel maintenance building and one wood frame building not judged to have contributory value. The Ault parcel is a maintenance facility of 21,000 square feet, with a 2,016 square-foot steel building on the property. The Nunn parcel is a maintenance facility of 26,250 square feet, and has one 1,680 square-foot steel building on the property. The Stoneham parcel is a maintenance facility of 39,433 square feet, with a 2,016 square foot steel building on the property. The Eckley parcel is a closed roadside rest area on an 8.58-acre site with a building that contains both men’s and women’s restrooms at opposite ends of the building, four dusk-to-dawn lights, one concrete pad for a mobile home, a storage shed and water-well shed. The site also has electrical service, a water well and septic vault system that requires periodic pumping to remove waste. Five covered pavilions with barbeque pits have been removed from the site. For more information you can read the information from CDOT's Web site. or call the Region 4 office at 970-350-2103.
