Authorities Try To ID Woman Found Dismembered

Authorities are trying to identify the body of a woman found by a motorist in southern Colorado.

Custer County Coroner Art Nordyke said the body was found Nov. 24 by someone who stopped to use the bathroom by an old campground.

"We know it was a female, a grown woman, but the body had been there a while and there was some dismemberment," probably by animals, said Nordyke.

The El Paso County coroner's office is conducting an autopsy. Nordyke said it could be three weeks before he knows the cause of death.

The Custer County sheriff's office said the woman had dark hair, was white or Hispanic in her 30s or 40s and was from 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall and about 190 pounds.

Anyone with information that could aid investigators is asked to call the Custer County Sheriff's office at 719-783-2270 or send an e-mail to custersheriff@centurytel.net.
