More Breck Cops To Enforce Ski Rules

Officers Will Patrol Lower Slopes, Terrain Parks

Breckenridge police officers could be more noticeable this winter on the lower slopes and terrain parks at Breckenridge Ski Resort as part of a new city ordinance to deal with people who violate the Colorado Ski Safety Act in town courts.

The Summit Daily News reports the town council gave preliminary approval to an ordinance for people violating the safety act. Previously, offenders would be prosecuted in Summit County Court under the state law.

Criminal acts include skiing while drunk, skiing on a close trail or out of bounds or failing to give a ski area employee an address and name when involved in a collision with another skier.

“I don't know that we'll have a much more visible presence,” Holman told the newspaper at Tuesday's town council work session. He said the police department will be “trying to seek out opportunities” to help curb aggressive behavior.
