CENTENNIAL, Colo. -- Hundreds of unnerved neighbors packed a Centennial school Monday. They were looking for answers more than two and a half weeks after a man was found dead on someone’s front lawn.Andrew Graham, a graduate from the University of Colorado was shot and killed on Nov 6. The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said he died from a single gunshot wound to his torso -- shot in his back. His body was found, lying face down, on the front lawn of a residence. The homicide has shaken the neighborhood so the sheriff’s office decided to hold a community meeting.
“(Andrew) was humble and shy,” said Cindy Graham, Andrew’s mother, to the crowd of around 400 people. Graham said she wanted to help people understand who her son was.“He was one of those people that everyone liked and respected,” said Graham.Andrew, better known by his nickname “stitches” was last leaving the light rail station near County Line Road and Interstate 25.Toward the end of the meeting Monday night, a young woman who found Andrew’s body stood up to speak.“I have never been so impressed with the police department,” said the woman. “The negativity that has been here tonight shouldn’t be.”But some residents were not as pleased with the sheriff’s office and wanted more. “We need to know what is going on,” said a frustrated woman in the crowd.“We do not know what occurred, what transpired or what led up to Andrews death,” said Capt. Louie Perea, of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.Perea said they need the community's help to solve this crime. One of Andrew's neighbors think the best way to do that may be by increasing the reward money. “I certainly think there should be a substantial reward offered because in this type of activity, if it is gang related a large reward will sometimes break the case,” said Mike Orr, Andrew’s longtime neighbor. Besides answering questions about some of the specifics on the homicide, the sheriff’s office gave the community tips on how people can protect themselves and their community. Perea said the most cost efficient way to deter crime is to keep outside house lights on at night. That is something Kay Luttinen said she does every night. “I am going to get the rest of the neighborhood to light up if I can because we have some real dark houses in there,” said Luttinen. Perea also encouraged residents to call 911 anytime they see or hear something they think could be suspicious or seems out of the ordinary. “We had several individuals hear what they believed to be shots fired roughly about midnight (the night Andrew was last seen alive),” said Perea. “Unfortunately not one person called the sheriff’s office.” The sheriff’s office victim’s advocate said they are willing to hold a counseling session for residents in need of some help. Even Andrew’s mother, during this difficult time, offered advice to the community.“Get back to your lives,” said Graham. “Get help if you need it and stay together.”Investigators said they are looking for six people who were riding the light rail with Andrew near the County Line Road station. They said they want to speak to the individuals.Police said the light rail riders are not suspects, but hope they can help them answer some questions.Additional Info:
