A Longmont police officer was charged with two felonies Friday in a case where he is accused of giving prescription drugs to a confidential informant.

Authorities said they believe Jack Kimmett has a relationship with the informant, but didn't give specifics. Investigators said he took Vicodin from his wife and gave the pain medication to the female informant, reported the Boulder Daily Camera.

Kimmett, a 28-year-veteran, was released from jail last week after posting a $50,000 bond. The investigation began after detectives received a tip in July. They interviewed several people who said they had first-hand knowledge of Kimmett providing the drugs to the informant.

He faces charges of theft, felony possession of a controlled substance, felony distribution of a controlled substance and official misconduct, the Camera reported.

He is next court date is Dec. 10.
