A Colorado Springs doctor has been sentenced to six months home detention for illegally distributing prescription narcotic drugs, according to federal prosecutors.

Peter W.S. Grigg, 49, also was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Denver Thursday to five years of probation. He also had to forfeit assets including nearly $17,000 in cash and surrender nine firearms. His home detention was delayed until Jan. 1, 2010.

Grigg was indicted last January and pleaded guilty in August.

According to stipulated facts in a plea agreement filed in federal court, Grigg met with undercover police officers four times outside of his medical practice to sell them Oxycodone, Fentanyl and Ecstasy last year.

According to prosecutors, Grigg was paid $100 by undercover officers for writing a prescription Oxycodone on Oct. 17, 2008. Three weeks later, Grigg was paid $1,000 for writing a prescription for Oxycodone. Two weeks after that, Grigg was paid $1,000 for writing a prescription for Oxycodone. Also on Nov. 25, 2008, prosecutors said Grigg supplied the undercover officer with Oxycodone and Ecstasy. Prosecutors said that Grigg was paid $1,000 for Oxycodone on Dec. 5, 2008. On same day Grigg also provided an undercover officer with a Fentanyl transdermal patch and Fentanyl tablets.

"No one is above the law, including physicians," said David Gaouette, U.S. Attorney. "This type of illegal conduct cannot be tolerated and will continue to be prosecuted by our office."

Grigg has a case pending in Colorado Springs involving a prescription allegedly given for medical marijuana.

The case was cited by District Attorney Dan May last month when talked to the Colorado Springs City County and El Paso county commissioners about the proliferation of unregulated marijuana dispensaries in the area.

An undercover police officer said he paid Griggs $300 for the marijuana prescription.
