UPDATED: 1:51 pm MST November 19, 2009

Emergency crews in Jackson, Miss., freed a boy stuck in a chimney Thursday morning, Jackson television station WAPT reported.

A neighbor said she heard someone screaming for help at about 8 a.m. She and her husband called 911 and drove around trying to find out where the screaming was coming from. Finally, they found the house and saw that the boy was stuck in a chimney.

Neighbors said the boy's brother threw the boy's backpack into the chimney and he became stuck while trying to get it out.

Around eight firefighters and police climbed onto the roof of a home and tried to free the boy from the chimney. Finally, emergency crews tore down the chimney and pulled the boy out.

The boy was stuck in the chimney for more than two hours before he was rescued. The boy was taken to a local hospital after suffering cuts and bruises, firefighters said.
