Arvada Woman Found Slain, Suspect Arrested In Ky.

ARVADA, Colo. -- A suspect in the slaying of an Arvada woman has been arrested in Kentucky, just a day after the body of the woman was found in her apartment.Police discovered the body of 41-year-old Leslie Blankey just before 1 p.m. Tuesday while on a welfare check at her apartment in the 6400 block of Quail Street.An investigation by Arvada detectives resulted in the identification of a suspect and an arrest warrant for 33-year-old Ryan Heacock. Police identified him as an acquaintance of the victim.
Police in Glasgow, Ky., arrested Heacock in a Comfort Inn motel at 5 a.m. Wednesday, after eight rooms around his room were evacuated. He was arrested on a Colorado fugitive warrant and also faces charges of receiving stolen property over $300. According to the Glasgow police report, Heacock was driving a stolen 1998 Dodge Caravan with Colorado license plates.Arvada police notified police in Glasgow to be on the lookout for Heacock who might have fled to the area."Patrol officers saw a vehicle with Colorado license plates in the parking lot at the Comfort Inn, and they believed that to be his vehicle, so they made contact with the hotel management for their assistance," said Lt. Col. Kent Keen, Glasgow Police Department spokesman.Arvada investigators are traveling to Kentucky to continue the investigation.An extradition hearing for Heacock has not yet been scheduled and he's being held without bond.Police said Blankey was the second homicide victim this year in Arvada.
