FIRESTONE, Colo. -- The Firestone Police Department has released a photograph of a "bash and grab" involving a bank automatic teller machine and is asking for the public's help in catching the crooks. The incident happened at Adams Bank and Trust, at 8308 Colorado Blvd. in Firestone, on Oct. 18. Police said someone stole a front-end loader from Milavec Lake Park in nearby Frederick and drove it to the bank."The suspects maneuvered the loader through the drive-through, crushed the ATM machine, and removed the safe from inside," police stated in a news release.
The heist happened between 11:15 p.m. and 11:45 p.m., police said. They recovered the safe a short time later from the front bucket of the loader, but there was no one around the machine. Keys were found on the loader, but it did not belong to the owner of the machine. The front end loader did extensive damage and investigators are reviewing surveillance video from the bank in an effort to identify the culprits.Police have asked that anyone who owns similar types of construction equipment -- such as Caterpillar loaders, Volvo or John Deere loaders and backhoes -- to report any sets of keys that may have been stolen or are missing.
