DENVER -- Many local job seekers said they were disappointed with companies that pulled out of a job fair Tuesday afternoon. The fair was located at the Red Lion Hotel in Denver, near I-70 and Quebec Street. It was sponsored by Nationwide Job Fairs. It advertised 18 companies would be on-site looking to hire. Instead, Nationwide said several companies called to cancel this morning, leaving only 11.
The companies that participated said job openings have stayed consistent through the year. Many agreed the turnout at job fairs has increased. One man from Castle Rock said he's been looking for a new job in trucking or sales for two years."It's been a struggle. I apply online. I come to these, trying to get prospects, walking in, trying to get a name," said Eddie Day. He said he was hoping to apply with PepsiCo today, but it pulled out of the job fair.Dish Network attended the fair and said it's looking to hire more than 400 people in the Denver metro area.Farmers Insurance is looking to fill 15-20 positions and said it talked to several qualified candidates today."Unfortunately, there's still a lot of people that need opportunities that are looking for work. We find that the opportunity's out there if the individual's willing to go after it," said John Flores, District Hiring Manager for Farmers Insurance.
