COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Sheriff's officials say a 22-year-old Fort Carson soldier is suspected of shooting at two people who were leaving a Colorado Springs bar. No one was injured and the El Paso County Sheriff's deputies arrested Jayson Stear. He is being held on $100,000 bail on investigation of attempted first-degree murder, felony menacing, and felony theft. Sheriff's officials say Stear shot at 36-year-old Michael Hellon and 27-year-old Aranda Callen at about 2 a.m. Saturday.
Several Fort Carson soldiers have been accused of violent crimes upon returning from deployments in the last few years. An Army study released this year said the soldiers had trouble adjusting to civilian life and refused to seek help out of fear of being belittled or punished.
