Two apartments were destroyed and six others damaged by an early morning fire that forced evacuations of several families in Colorado Springs Saturday.

KRDO reported the fire started around 2:16 a.m. at the Cobblestone Ridge Apartments on the south side of town.

All the residents got out of the complex and are OK. Firefighters had to rescue a dog from inside one apartment.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the fire. The Red Cross was called to help displaced families.

Investigators are still looking for the cause of the fire.
