WASHINGTON -- Senator Mark Udall said the shootings at Fort Hood in Texas underscore that more needs to be done to help "troops who find themselves at the breaking point." The Colorado Democrat was briefed by Army officials on Friday along with other members of the Senate Armed Services Committee. He said in an interview that it's too early to draw conclusions about the motive for the attack. He said he wants to know, as the government's investigation proceeds, if there are parallels between the Fort Hood shootings and instances of violence at Fort Carson in Colorado and Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
Udall also urged the public not to blame Muslims just because the suspect in the shootings is a Muslim. He noted that thousands of Muslims serve in the U.S. military.
