The former treasurer of the parent teacher organization at Dakota Valley Elementary School is accused of stealing more than $50,000 from the group, according to police records.

Kelly Lipsky, 38, is accused of stealing $52,600 from the PTO during her four years as the group's treasurer, the Aurora Sentinel reported.

She was also a teacher's aide at the school, the newspaper said.

According to police records, the theft was discovered in February when the co-president of the PTO received a returned check for $6,000, made out for fundraiser books. Digging further, the PTO's co-president, Andrea McMullen, found personal purchases for hair spray and clothing and discovered that Lipsky was using the PTO's account to reimburse her husband for items he said he bought with cash.

However, no receipts were found for any of the purchases and the arrest report alleges that Lipsky often reimbursed her husband for double the amount he paid for items, the newspaper said.

Lipsky was removed from the PTO in February and was fired from the school in April.

Prosecutors have not yet charged Lipsky, as the investigation is ongoing.
