EVERGREEN, Colo. -- Firefighters are looking into the cause of a fire that swept through and destroyed a home in Evergreen. No one was inside the home, located at 3 Ute Trail, and no injuries have been reported, firefighters said. The fire was called in just before 2 p.m.
"The engines had a hard time accessing the property due to heavy snow on some roads leading to the property," said Evergreen Fire Chief Gary Dejong. When crews got through the snow and the rugged mountain roads, they found the first floor of the house engulfed in flames."We attacked the structure with fire lines but the fire was too hot and we went into a defensive position," Dejong said.It took crews an hour to knock down the flames.
