AURORA, Colo. -- A ballot measure to help Aurora's cash-strapped library system failed as 54 percent for voters said no to a new special taxation district. The defeat of Ballot Issue 4A means four of the community's seven libraries will close. The libraries facing closure are Mission Viejo, Hoffman Heights, Iliff Square and Chambers Plaza.Supporters said the measure would have ensured dedicated funding for libraries, which often face cutbacks during economic downturns.
But critics said the property tax increase was too much for troubled economic times.
