ALAMOSA, Colo. -- It will be another 30 days before prosecutors can file charges against a 14-year-old Monte Vista boy in the deaths of his mother and stepfather. Rio Grande County District Judge Martin Gonzales on Monday granted the delay in the proceedings so defense attorneys can review the case."We are taking our time. We just want to do things right," said District Attorney David Mahonee.
Authorities say a relative found the bodies of 38-year-old Tracy Aaron Rinebarger and 34-year-old Joanna Marlee Rinebarger in their home outside Monte Vista on Oct. 27. Authorities have not revealed how they died. The 14-year-old, whose name hasn't been released, was arrested a short time later in Park County, about an hour's drive north of the family home. He was driving his mother's pickup when he was stopped. The boy was enrolled as a freshman at Monte Vista High School and is now being held at a youth detention facility. A gag order has been issued in the case and a hearing held Monday in Alamosa was closed.
