Thousands of Coloradans have been patiently waiting for the H1N1 vaccine.

While county health departments try to build up enough supplies to host clinics, one private clinic, operating in 10 Front Range King Soopers stores, quietly began offering the vaccine this week.

"The Little Clinic, located in select King Soopers in the Denver area, has received a limited supply of H1N1 vaccine and is administering these on a first come, first serve basis between 10 am and noon daily while it lasts," said Jennifer Martin, of Alday Communications, Inc.

"I came here to get a few things and thought, OK, it's offered, I'm going to get it," said shopper Judith Baker.

Baker rolled up her sleeves and received both the regular flu vaccine and the H1N1 vaccine.

"I have underlying chronic conditions, so I thought I would go ahead a get both of them today," Baker said.

When Patrick O'Brien learned about the availability, he too decided to take advantage.

"United Airlines told me to go to Centura Health. I called them and they said there's none available. That was a week ago," O'Brien told 7NEWS. "I'm going to take advantage of this right now."

The Little Clinics offering H1N1 vaccines are located in King Soopers Stores at:

  • 9551 S. University Blvd., Highlands Ranch
  • 3400 Youngfield Street, Wheat Ridge
  • 19711 E. Smoky Hill Road, Centennial
  • 7984 W. Alameda Avenue, Lakewood
  • 100 Founders Parkway, Castle Rock
  • 2355 W. 136th Avenue, Broomfield
  • 1611 Pace Street, Longmont
  • 8673 S. Quebec Street, Highlands Ranch
  • 3620 Austin Bluffs Parkway, Colorado Springs
  • 2100 35th Avenue, Greeley
  • Last week, Denver Health postponed 17 clinics because of a shortage of the H1N1 vaccine.

This week, Tri-County Health announced that it has enough vaccine to begin its planned community clinics.

"We'll run the clinics as long as we can with the vaccine that we have available," said Dr. Richard Vogt, executive director of Tri-County Health Department.

Vogt told 7NEWS that health officials will monitor demand and will let people waiting in line know how long the supply is expected to last.

Tri-County serves 1.25 million people in Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas Counties.

The first clinics are scheduled Nov. 5 at Thornton Middle School, Bennett Middle School and the Byers School district.

Three more clinics will b e held Nov. 6 at Shadow Ridge Middle School in Thornton, Ranum High School in unincorporated Adams County and at Arapahoe Community College in Littleton.

The Jefferson County Health Department is also planning flu clinics this month, but not until Nov. 21.

Those clinics will be held at Alameda High School, Arvada High School, Chatfield High School, Evergreen High School and West Jefferson Middle School.

The Jefferson County Health Department is seeking volunteers to help conduct those clinics.

Boulder County said it doesn't have enough vaccine yet to schedule any clinics.

Denver Public Health officials told 7NEWS they will conduct two clinics this month at the Eastside Family Health Center at 28th and Welton streets and the Westside Family Health Center at West 11th Avenue and Federal Blvd.

Those clinics are scheduled for Nov. 8 and Nov. 21.

Tri-County, Jefferson County and Denver Health officials said the vaccine will initially be restricted to members of the public in high risk categories, including pregnant women, children and people with chronic underlying conditions.

Dr. Vogt said the people attending the Tri-County clinics may want to have proof that they live in one of the counties served by that health department.
