A Denver police officer was injured after his patrol car was hit by a suspected drunken driver Friday night.

A Jeep Cherokee driving without headlights on ran the red light at the intersection of Park Avenue and Broadway and T-boned the officer's patrol car, said police spokesman Sonny Jackson.

The driver of the Cherokee ran away from the crash scene but was later arrested after police canvassed the area, Jackson said.

Police did not release the name of the driver, but said he faces charges of DUI, careless driving, leaving the scene of an injury accident and other charges.

The officer was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. He was treated and released, Jackson said.

A passenger in the Cherokee was found passed out after the crash. He or she was not injured.
