DENVER -- We expect the storm to have a major impact on Colorado so we're blogging the latest info on the storm in order to get the very latest information quickly to you. Events are blogged in order of most recent first.6:55 p.m. School closings for Friday starting to come in, including a number in Weld County. Visit our school closure page for updates.1:03 p.m. The storm is moving northeast, creating blizzard conditions for the eastern plains. A blizzard warning has been issued for Central and East Adams and Arapahoe counties. The warning expires at midnight.
10:50 a.m. WYDOT reports a number of sections of Interstate 80 closed. Check the WYDOT site for the latest information.10:25 a.m. CDOT has closed Intersate 7O between Air Park (east of Denver) to Limon, due to low visibility and blowing snow. State Highway 86 from Kiowa to Limon and US 24 from Limon to Calhan are also closed due to hazardous driving conditions.8:55 a.m. From Frontier Airlines: We are currently experiencing 3-4 hour Air Traffic Control-imposed delays this morning into and out of Denver due to snow and drifting snow, driven by high winds. Denver International Airport has had difficulty keeping up with snowfall and has been unable to keep sufficient runways/taxiways open for anything but limited operations. As a result of this significant disruption to our operations, we have been forced to begin cancelling flights into and out of Denver this morning. Thus far, we've cancelled 19 flights and will continue to update those cancellations at www.frontierairlines.com.7:53 a.m. United Airlines has reduced its DIA schedule by almost 50 percent. The airport has only one runway for departures and one for arrivals, according to United. "We are changing our schedule accordingly and as always we ask that customers check united.com for flight status," said UAL spokesman Charlie Hobart.7:01 a.m. Erie's Department of Public Works crews have conducted snow removal operations on all primary routes within Erie. Crews began early yesterday morning and snow removal efforts will continue throughout the day Thursday until the conclusion of this storm. Snow removal efforts will shift focus to secondary routes as snowfall decreases and primary routes remain cleared.5:38 a.m.The City of Golden will be open for normal business hours this morning. The Golden Community Center will delay its opening until 7 a.m.5:13 a.m. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science WILL BE OPEN for business today.4:51 a.m. UC Denver closes both campuses. UC Denver's downtown campus, located on the Auraria Campus, and the schools and college on the Anschutz Medical Campus remain closed on Thursday, due to inclement weather.A decision on whether the two campuses will reopen on Friday, will be made by 5 a.m. on Friday. This information will be made available through the Denver area media outlets: at 877-INFO-070 (877-463.6070) and www.ucdenver.edu/alert. The hospitals on the Anschutz Medical Campus will make their own closure announcements. 11:54 p.m. Loveland Pass (US 6) closed.9:07 p.m. Trick-or-Treat Street at Ralston Valley High School (previously scheduled for Thursday evening) is canceled.8:53 p.m. All Poudre schools will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 29, due to severe weather and road conditions. All PSD activities and events scheduled for Oc. 29 are postponed.6:12 p.m. All Jefferson County schools are closed Thursday. Also, Denver Public Schools' district offices will be on a late-start schedule on Thursday, Oct. 29. Start time is 10 a.m. Schools are closed on Thursday for Fall Break. All Kaleidoscope Corner Break Camps are canceled for Thursday. All special-education programs and athletics, including practices, are canceled for Thursday, except for East High School's gymnastics competition at Mountain Range, which is expected to run as scheduled.6 p.m. Adams County School District 50 will be closed on Thursday.4:50 p.m. Due to weather conditions and as a safety precaution, Aurora Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 29. All after-school athletic practices, events and activities are canceled. All APS daycare centers will also be closed. Note, APS students are on fall break this week. For a full list of closures, check our School Closings page.4:36 p.m. CDOT will have a fleet of 71 plows that will work overnight to plow snow continually in the metro area.4:36 p.m. US Highway 287 from Ted's Place to the Wyoming line reopened. The long lines of trucks are gone. The accidents are clear but it is still snowy and icy in spots.4:33 p.m. Littleton has all seven of its snow plows and crews out plowing and have been since 4 a.m. These crews will work on 12 hour shifts as long as necessary. All roads are open and crews are so far able to keep up with plowing. Littleton Fire Rescue implemented its Snow Emergency Plan at 3 p.m. today, which means that an extra Rescue Unit is in service, and a Brush Truck is in service that can operate exceptionally well in adverse road conditions. Littleton Public Schools let middle and high school students out early today. Elementary schools let out at their normal time. The district has not announced plans for tomorrow. The city activated the Emergency Hotline with updated information. The phone number is 303-795-3900.4 p.m. DIA spokesman Chuck Cannon said the airport is operating relatively normal. Pena Boulevard is clear, but slushy. Flight delays are mostly from deicing. Some airplanes were experiencing one-hour delays as they wait to be deiced. If you have flights on Thursday, contact your airline to see if your flight has been canceled. On Wednesday, United canceled 34 flights, Frontier canceled 20 flights and Southwest canceled nine flights.2:28 p.m. All city of Golden offices will close at 3 p.m. today due to deteriorating weather conditions. City offices are expected to reopen on Thursday, Oct. 29, weather permitting. Golden's City Streets Department will continue to operate in 12-hour shifts to plow streets during the storm and to clear streets once the storm is over.12:59 p.m. US 287 is closed between Ted's Place and Wyoming line, due to accidents and adverse conditions.12:24 p.m. Auraria Haunted Harvest in St. Cajetan's from 3-6 p.m. on Auraria Campus has been canceled for Thursday.12:14 p.m. Interstate 80 is closed again between Cheyenne and Laramie, due to adverse conditions, PER WYDOT.12:10 p.m. Update from E470: Plowing began at 10 last night and we currently have 21 plows working on all 47 miles of the highway. Magnesium chloride was first applied at 10 last night; in addition, ice slicer, a granular ice melt material, with Ice Ban coating, was also dispensed. The road surface is still above freezing and has been melting the snow throughout the storm. We have had no major accidents and have none on the highway at this time.11:55 a.m. Denver Nuggets say their season opener tonight at the Pepsi Center is still on.11:35 a.m. Eastbound Interstate 70 has reopened at exit 244. That's at the bottom of Floyd Hill.11:26 a.m. Boulder County Public Health has canceled today's immunization clinic.10:55 a.m. Eastbound Interstate 70 closed at exit 244, at the bottom of Floyd Hill, due to multiple accidents/disabled vehicles.10:12 a.m. School is in session today for Cherry Creek School District's eight year-round elementary schools. Today's afterschool activities are cancelled.10:12 a.m. Power was restored to Montrose High School at 9:45 a.m. The outage did affect the district's server, which means that their Internet connections were unavailable until 10 a.m., after the server was rebooted. All services have been restored.9:50 a.m. CDOT reports Interstate 80 has reopened between Laramie and Cheyenne, Wyo.8:27 a.m. U.S. 6 (Loveland Pass) has reopened, per CDOT.8:13 a.m. West Metro Firefighters have canceled the training fire at 14th and Wadsworth in Lakewood scheduled today. At this time, no reschedule date has been given.8:10 a.m. The city of Thornton is on accident alert.8:08 a.m. From Montrose School District: We know that Montrose High School's main wing is without power, due to a transformer "blowing." There are other power outages, according to the Emergency Dispatch, as a result of the heavy snow collecting on the leaves of trees, and then interfering with the power lines. Delta-Montrose Electric Association confirms widespread power outages. Street lights may be affected. Drive carefully.8:01 a.m. Due to inclement weather, court operations in Elbert County will be delayed until 10 a.m. today.7:21 a.m Denver Public Schools are on Fall Break today. All parent-teacher conferences are canceled due to weather. All athletic and special-education programs are also canceled. The district's Kaleidoscope Corner Break Camps are open this morning, but will close early at 11 a.m. District offices are open until further notice.Currently there are 74 plows out around the metro area. Drivers are urged to slow down!6:56 a.m. From CDOT: Crews began their snow shift last night at 9 p.m. and are still going strong. We just had a shift change so crews are fresh and will work throughout the day. CDOT is using deicer only on bridges/overpasses/slick spots. The storm is wet so it will require mostly plowing as pavement temps are still pretty warm. There are numerous slick/slushy areas across the metro area.6:38 a.m. The City of Boulder is now on accident alert until further notice.6:15 a.m.Interstate 80 in Wyoming closed between Laramie and Cheyenne, per CDOT.5:46 a.m. From 7News viewer: We are on Fall River Road above Idaho Springs. It's been snowing heavily all night, and right now, we have 14 inches on the ground and it's still coming down hard.3:30 a.m. CDOT saying Loveland Pass is closed due to adverse conditions. That means all commercial vehicles will have to use the Eisenhower Tunnel. Check www.cotrip.org for the latest highway info.12:13 a.m.Larimer County's first H1N1 Vaccination clinic scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed due to weather conditions, according to the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment."As we try to protect people’s lives through vaccination, we don't want to endanger them by putting them in a hazardous situation," said Dr. Adrienne LeBailly, director of the health department. "I would hate for children, parents, staff and volunteers to get into dangerous driving conditions going to or from the clinic."TUESDAY, OCT. 27

While we plan to operate as many flights as we feel we safely can given conditions at DIA, we are beginning to proactively cut some flights ahead of this storm. The most current information on our operation can be found on our Web site at http://www.frontierairlines.com/frontier/flight-info/weather.do. Our Web site will be updated with those cancellations as they happen. Passengers on those canceled flights will be automatically re-booked on the first available flight and will be contacted with their new flight information. Please advise people to check the status of their flight on our Web site before heading to the airport.
