CDOT Selling Two Foothills Properties

Properties No Longer Needed After Highway Widening

The Colorado Department of Transportation is selling two lots a few miles east of Aspen Park on US Highway 285. The two lots, a two-acre and a one-acre lot, sit about a mile east of South Turkey Creek Road on the south side of Highway 285.

The land was originally acquired as part of the highway widening project and is now being sold back to the public since it is no longer needed. CDOT's Andy Flurkey said the agency follows a 20-year land policy that states if CDOT believes they won't need or use the land in 20 years it will sell it to the public.

The two properties were assessed by a CDOT appraiser who created a fair market value range. The high range value for the two-acre lot is $110,000 while the one-acre plot is valued at $65,000. Flurkey said CDOT expects the winning bid to fall some where near that high value range.

Buyers must submit sealed bids by November 4th to the CDOT office in Golden and include a $5,000 bid deposit.

The money raised from the sale of the properties will go back to CDOT's region 1 office and they will use the money for other projects in region 1.
