Hinkley Parents Will Be Shown Tape Of 'Hazing'

Video Taken On School Bus After Soccer Game

Parents who want to see surveillance video showing roughhousing and a possible sexual hazing on the Hinkley High School bus last month will be allowed to see it after all, the Aurora Public School District said Thursday.

The announcement reverses the school district's earlier decision to withhold the evidence from parents of students who were suspended for the incident.

Denver police are investigating the incident as a misdemeanor sex crime and misdemeanor harassment.

The alleged hazing occurred on Sept. 25 as the boys soccer team was coming back from a game with Arvada West.

Hinkley students say the incident involved "teabagging" or placing one's genitals on another person's face.

Some students told the Aurora Sentinel that one soccer player was held down by others in the back of the bus while another student exposed himself and put his genitals on the victim's face.

On student who has been suspended told the newspaper that that's not entirely true because it didn't involve "skin."

It's not clear if the two coaches on the bus witnessed what happened, or even knew what was happening on the back of the bus. However, two of the school's three soccer coaches have been disciplined.

Fifteen students have been suspended, according to students who talked to the newspaper. The district has declined to comment on how many students may have been suspended or expelled because of the incident and how many students may have been involved.

It's also not clear what the video shows, and if it was clear to see which students were involved. The video has been used as evidence against students in suspension or expulsion hearings.

The school district would not say if the parents and students would have to file an appeal to view the video, or if the district would be making the tape available through a group or individual meetings with students implicated in the incident and their parents, the newspaper reported.
