DENVER -- A 71-year-old Denver man known as the "Cat Man" in his neighborhood because he lives with numerous cats was charged Thursday with sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl, the Denver district attorney said.
Police said Alfred J. Kaufman is charged with one felony count of sexual assault on a child.
The charge alleges that on April 3, two sisters, ages 7 and 5, living in the same neighborhood as Kaufman visited him and his cats at his home on the 3800 block of Yates Street. While they were there, he sexually assaulted the 7-year-old, the Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter said.Kaufman was arrested and remains in custody in the Denver County Jail, in lieu of $100,000 bond.He will appear in Denver County Court on Monday to be advised of the charge.
