Bicyclist Dies In Boulder Crash With Car

BOULDER, Colo. -- A Lafayette woman has been cited in connection with the death of a 60-year-old bicyclist in Boulder.Karlin Bruegel, 25, was cited with careless driving result in death in Sunday's crash involving Casey E. Najera, 60, of Longmont.Bruegel told investigations she didn't see Najera on his bike at the intersection of 28th Street and Violet Avenue at 11:45 a.m.
Investigators said Najera was riding eastbound on 28th Street and Bruegel was driving westbound when she turned in front of him.Najera, who was wearing a helmet, hit Bruegel's car and was thrown from his bike. He was taken to Boulder Community Hospital where he died of his injuries.Najera owned Rocky Mountain Paint & Body in Longmont.On Saturday evening, another 60-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured when he fell off his bicycle while riding down Sunshine Canyon in Boulder County.The unidentified man was airlifted by Air Life Denver and transported to Denver Health.The Saturday crash happened at about 6:40 p.m. in the 4000 block of Sunshine Canyon Drive.
