Family Escapes Burning Home Through Windows

GREELEY, Colo. -- A dog is being credited for saving a family in Greeley Tuesday morning.The Union Colony Fire Rescue Authority was called at 5:16 a.m. to a house on fire at 3349 Second St.Firefighters found that two children and one adult had escaped the fire through the bedroom windows. They told firefighters they were woken up by their dog. All three were taken to the hospital to be treated for possible smoke inhalation.
It took three engine companies, one ladder company, one rescue company and one battalion chief, a total of 17 fire personnel, to put the fire out.The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage is estimated at approximately $100,000.The family had a smoke detector, it melted in the fire. Firefighters are not saying yet if the smoke detector was in working order. In a news release, Union Colony Fire Rescue reminds citizens to install a smoke detector near the bedrooms on each level of your house and test them monthly. Families should also have an escape plan that they practice.
