GLEN HAVEN, Colo. -- Fire managers say a 25-acre blaze north of Estes Park is 80 percent contained. The fire is burning in heavy timber and steep terrain about 10 miles north of Estes Park. Authorities said Wednesday that 75 firefighters were on the ground and two helicopters were making water drops. The cause is unknown.
The Dunraven Fire grew from about 5 acres to between 25 and 30 acres north of Estes Park Tuesday. There was one evacuation earlier in the day Tuesday and about 50 homeowners were told they might have to leave. But U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Tammy Williams said cooler, calmer weather has lessened the threat and the one evacuation order has been lifted. The Dunraven Glade Road remains closed to non-residents. About 140 people are fighting the fire, with the help of a helicopter and air tanker. The fire was reported shortly before noon in the Comanche Peak Wilderness in deep timber on steep terrain near Glen Haven, about 75 miles northwest of Denver.
