Water Quality Survey Draws Questions

POSTED: 5:32 p.m. MST March 26, 2003

Have you found a plastic bag with a small plastic bottle and a water survey on your front door?

The survey, in bright orange, asks all kinds of questions -- from your tap water taste, to how many people there are in your family.

Call7 For Help Consumer Champ Bill Clarke suggests looking at the fine print at the bottom of the survey. It says "We are not affiliated with any city of government agency."

So who is behind the survey? Clarke says the company name is not even printed on the survey. Another red flag? The phone number that is printed on the survey is disconnected.

Call7 For Help contacted the Colorado Water Quality Control Division about the flier and found that it is a common marketing tool and that such fliers want to sell you a water filter that you may not need.

If you have questions about the quality of your water, you should be an unbiased opinion from a water lab. To find a lab near you, check out the links below:

Water labs can also be found in the phone book under "Environmental Services."
