Suspects Charged With Growing Marijuana In Forest
Authorities Found 14,500 Marijuana Plants In Pike National Forest

GOLDEN, Colo. -- Two men are facing felony charges in the discovery of about 14,500 marijuana plants, valued at $12.5 million, in Pike National Forest. Jefferson County District Attorney Scott Storey says David Padilla-Martinez, 40, was charged Monday with felony cultivation of marijuana and felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Padilla-Martinez was being held in jail on $100,000 bond.
Rene Galan Hernandez, 37, was charged with felony cultivation of marijuana and was being held on $10,000 bond. The suspects' hometowns weren't immediately available. The discovery Aug. 21 of marijuana near Deckers is among the recent cases that have prompted the U.S. Forest Service to investigate how much marijuana is being illegally grown in national forests in the state.
