MEEKER PARK, Colo. -- The female bear suspected in 10 cabin break-ins was shot and killed during an 11th break-in Saturday in Meeker Park, near Allenspark. The bear never injured anyone, but it had broken down doors and gone through screens in its hunt for food, according to the Longmont Times-Call.“We tried shooting her with buckshot,” Laura Dever, co-owner of the Meeker Park Lodge, told the newspaper. “People beat her with walking sticks. It didn’t help.”
The 120-pound female bear was killed by a neighbor’s grandson with a rifle.Jennifer Churchill of the Colorado Division of Wildlife said the division had been trying to trap the bear, estimated to be about 3 or 4 years old. Had they succeeded, she said, it probably would have been put down.
