GREELEY, Colo. -- A Weld County man is seeking "riflemen-executioners" to kill 24 of his horses as a protest against a court order to clean up his property.Trenton Parker has been distributing flyers announcing the public execution at "high noon" on Sept. 5."The first horse that we're gonna kill is a beautiful gray stallion by the name of Independence,” Parker told the Greeley Tribune on Tuesday. "When we shoot him with one shot, make no mistake about it, it will be the first shot of the second American Revolution. You think I'm kidding? You just sit by and watch what happens."
When asked if Parker was serious or just trying to get attention, Deputy Shane Scofield of the Weld County Sheriff's Office said, "We don't know."Scofield told 7NEWS that the flyer itself isn't criminal, but that any attempt to carry out the threat would be."The message is that if there's anybody involved in this activity, then there's going to be potential criminal ramifications for them," Scofield said.Parker already faces a 90 day jail sentence for contempt of court after failing to clean up his property near County Roads 8 and 35. Court documents indicate there are several buildings on that property that he doesn't have permits for.Parker was late for a court appearance Wednesday on a separate assault case. His bond was revoked and he was taken into custody. He later complained of a medical condition and was taken to a local hospital.Court documents indicate that the victim of the assault, Joseph Lee, who was working for Parker, became fed up with his boss’s management style and tried to leave last March.Referring to Parker, Lee said, "He hogtied me and threw me to the ground."Neighbors who were aware of the assault charge, are flabbergasted by the flyers."I think it's outrageous," said Anna Utecht. "I really hope this (public execution) doesn't take place. I have two small children and I don’t want them to see any of this."Katie Wetherbee of National Horse Rescue said she believes Parker does intend to carry out his threat."He can't afford to take care of the horses," Wetherbee said. "If he's in jail he can't physically take care of them either."
