Guanella Pass Closed Because Of Rock Instability
Officials Concerned About Rockslide Danger

GEORGETOWN, Colo. -- Guanella Pass Road (County Road 381) in Clear Creek County is closed between Georgetown, Colo. and the Clear Lake Campground until further notice, the U.S. Forest Service announced Friday afternoon.Officials are concerned that a rockmass in that area could fall across the road due to instability created by above normal precipitation that occurred this summer.Guanella Pass summit can be accessed through Grant, Colo. from U.S. Highway 285. Access is only to the summit and cannot be traveled through to Georgetown.
Guanella Pass is a popular place for its campgrounds and hiking, especially for people hiking the Fourteener, Mount Bierstadt.For additional information, visit the Clear Creek County's Web site where officials say information will be updated.
