MORRISON, Colo. -- The Inter-Canyon Fire Department fought a house fire on South Turkey Creek Road near Hilldale Pines early Monday morning. The fire was just east of Aspen Park and the Meyer Ranch Open Space Park. The blaze was reported around 4:15 a.m. at 9579 S. Turkey Creek Road.
A motorist driving on South Turkey Creek saw the fire and stopped. The driver went up to the house to alert the residents.A dog in the house started barking when the stranger walked up to the house and that woke up the two residents who got out safely.Three sides of the home were on fire when the first fire units arrived.A significant amount of water was used on the structure and nearby trees to keep the fire from spreading. Water had to be trucked in because there are no fire hydrants in the area."We're actually prepared for the fact that there are no hydrants in this area, so we have tankers that actually set up portable ponds that we fill full of water and the pumpers draw water from that," said Inter-Canyon Fire Chief Dave MacBean.Inter-Canyon Fire was helped by the Elk Creek and Indian Hills fire departments. The home was a complete loss. The investigation into a cause is focused on the deck area, according to MacBean.
