Father Of Fatally Beaten Infant Pleads Not Guilty

Joseph Dowler Appears In Boulder Court Tuesday

A Boulder County man accused of killing his newborn son entered a not guilty plea Tuesday.

Joseph Dowler, 34 (pictured, left), faces charges of murder and several counts of child abuse, 7NEWS reported.

According to Longmont police, Dowler admitted losing his tempter with is crying son and violently shaking the 8-week-old.

Tanner Dowler died of brain injury in October after he was taken off life support.

Doctors testified earlier that the infant suffered 14 bone fractures appeared to have been beaten for most of his short life. Among the fractured bones were seven ribs.

According to the arrest record, Dowler also told police that he "has an anger problem and needs help with losing his temper." He also said he "has picked Tanner up by his neck before, and moved him around by his head."

The baby's mother, Audra Dowler, has been charged with three counts of child abuse for not seeking medical care for him.
