FBI: 'Shaggy Bandit' Wanted For 11 Robberies

Wells Fargo Bank Robbed Friday

UPDATED: 2:35 pm MDT August 8, 2009

The FBI is looking for a man they have dubbed the "Shaggy Bandit" who they believe is responsible for at least 11 bank robberies since June 24.

The man is suspected in 10 robberies in Colorado and one in Arizona, said Special Agent Kathy Wright of the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force.

The most recent robbery happened at the Wells Fargo Bank in Wheat Ridge.

The man will demand the bank's money and show the teller a dark-colored backpack, Wright said.

"Generally, he steals the money and leaves without drawing any attention from other customers or bank employees," she said.

Investigators believe the robber uses a second person waiting in a getaway vehicle to leave the scene before police arrive.

So far, the FBI has been unable to say what this getaway vehicle looks like.

The Shaggy Bandit is generally described as being in his late 20s or early 30s, with a slim build, approximately 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall. He may have facial hair and may also have acne marks or pockmarks on his face. He usually wears a hat.

If anyone has any information on the bank robber, please call the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force at 303-629-7171; or, you can remain anonymous and earn up to $2,000 by calling CRIMESTOPPERS at 720-913-STOP (7867).
