WALSENBURG, Colo. -- A man who was ticketed last fall for keeping 22 pit bulls chained to trees near Leadville, Colo., has been cited again for keeping a new pack of pit bulls near Walsenburg.
Ruben Pacheco, 35, was discovered living near Walsenburg with another 21
adult pit bulls and two litters. He was issued two $500 citations
for violating the state pet-care act, said Keith Roehr, a
veterinarian of the state Bureau of Animal Protection.
Last November, Pacheco was cited in Lake County for having more than the 15
dogs allowed without a kennel license. He complied with a
cease-and-desist order by finding homes for most of the pit bulls.
It was later discovered that one of his female dogs has whelped
another litter of puppies, making that the third litter of 2002 and
putting him in violation of the pet-care act again.
Roehr said the dogs found near Walsenburg were healthy and Pacheco was building a kennel facility to house them, but he still didn't have a kennel
license.
Pacheco advertises pits bulls on the Internet under the name "War Path Kennels," offering pit bulls for up to $1,200 each.
